From MechWikia

I started MechWikia in August of 2006. I'm still busy getting the wiki off the ground, but here's a little info about myself.

I'm a 19-year-old male college student from California. I have a lot of experience working with Wikipedia but this is my first timing administrating a wiki. I was inspired to start this wiki when I went to Wikipedia to read about the Timber Wolf and they didn't have a page for it (not surprising, since it would undoubtable qualify as some sort of cruft). I wanted a place where I could learn lots of information about the BattleTech universe and familiarize myself more with the various elements of it.

My knowledge of the BattleTech universe is by no means extensive and it's going to take the work of a lot of people to really get the site growing, though I'll be adding what I can.

The BattleTech-related media I own right now:

  • BattleTech board game - just the Fourth Edition box and what came with it, no models or additional rulebooks or record sheets or anything.
  • MechWarrior 2 - 2 copies of the original and 1 copy of the ATI 3D Rage edition, none of which I can get to run correctly now. Don't ask me how I ended up with three copies, I don't remember. Anyway, great game if I remember right.
  • MechWarrior 3 - Probably my favorite of the Mech- games
  • MechWarrior 4: Vengeance - Decent but feels like a step backwards from MW3. The modifications to gameplay and 'Mech configuration are frustrating and the visuals aren't as good
  • MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries - I like this one almost as much as MechWarrior 3, but it's got all the same problems as Vengeance. Solaris VII is easily my favorite part of the game. This game unfortunately broke the tradition of the Mech- games having good intro videos.
  • MechCommander Gold - One of the few RTS/RTT games I like. This has good graphics and great gameplay.
  • MechCommander 2 - Not nearly as good as its predecessor, unfortunately. The cutscenes and mission briefing videos are terrible and the gameplay somehow isn't as good. I sense a pattern with the Microsoft games.
  • MechAssault - Eh, it's too arcadey and too different from everything else, but it's still reasonably fun.

I got started with the BattleTech universe playing a friend's copy of MechWarrior 2. Before that, I got into mecha games with Earthsiege 2. I actually didn't get BattleTech itself until around the same time I got MechWarrior 4, because the local Barnes and Noble had been trying to sell one box for years and had lowered the price to $20.

As for other mecha games, in addition to Earthsiege 2 I greatly enjoy the original Earthsiege and last game in the series, Starsiege. I also like Heavy Gear, though I haven't played it in years.
