The Mechbox is a type of infobox designed to present information on a given BattleMech in a uniform manner. The Mechbox should become one of the most widely used templates on MechWikia. The current design is shown at right, with all fields filled in.

Unfortunately, due to the varying information on different 'Mechs, it is difficult to determine a uniform design for the Mechbox or what resource to use for information. Information varies between the boardgame and computer/video games. Though MechWarrior 2 and MechWarrior 3 closely follow the board game, MechWarrior 4 uses some different or modified rules, stats, and configurations. The MechCommander and MechAssault series in particular vary widely from the board games, using new or heavily modified versions of the weapons, configurations, and rules to accomodate vastly different gameplay styles.

Even in a single source, multiple configurations of a 'Mech may exist. For this reason, regardless of the final format of information chosen, editors must only cover one version of a 'Mech (the primary or most common version when one exists).

Provide only general information that doesn't change at all from source to source. This gives very limited data but eliminates the need to find a balance point or compromise on information.

Provide a seperate infobox for each source or game the 'Mech appears in. This would provide the most information but take up extremely large amounts of space

A single infobox provides all the information possible to collect from all sources, with the "best source" (probably boardgame) used when variations appear.
